Axl Rose Slams ‘Guitar Hero’ Over Unauthorized Use of Guns N’ Roses’ Songs

December 19, 2008 02:12:25

Axl Rose blasts off video game manufacturer Activision, which produced “Guitar Hero”, for allegedly using Guns N’ Roses‘ songs “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine” without proper authorization. Saying that ex-lead guitarist Slash “being Guitar Hero’s fine”, he adds, ” but not [fine] when Activison in using Jungle, having Yahoo use Sweet Child unauthorized.”

“Yes Slash was in Guns and on Jungle (and the whole I came to him for his riff is as much crap as him saying he brought Locomotive and Coma in as complete songs),” Axl opens up further during an open chat with fans. “And he has rights to perform it but not to be represented in this context in association with Guns. And since they weren’t granted the license it’ll take some sorting.”

Record Label Blame Axl Rose Over Album’s Failure to Top Chart

December 02, 2008 03:12:34

Guns N’ Roses‘ recording company Geffen Records have reportedly put the blame on Axl Rose regarding the market’s not-quite-positive response over their latest LP “Chinese Democracy“. A source told The Sun, “The label is really glad to have him back. But it is frustrating because the album would have had a much better chance of going to No. 1 if he had only been prepared to show his face.”

Since it was released on November 23 in the U.S., “Chinese Democracy” has pulled an estimated 300,000 – 500,000 copies sold but only managed to climb to number two on U.K. Albums chart, beaten down by The Killers‘ “Day & Age” which landed at the top spot on the chart.

Furthermore, on the letter the rockers also ask Dr Pepper to provide extra days for their one-day offer. On top of that, they also require a written full-page apology in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal for the inconvenience.

Guns N’ Roses Leaker Pleading Innocent

October 21, 2008 11:10:51

Kevin Cogill from California, who has been arrested by police officers for copyright infringement over Guns N’ Roses‘ songs in August, has pleaded not guilty for his action. The 27-year-old blogger appeared in Los Angeles’ federal court on Monday morning, October 20 to enter his plea.

Assistant U.S. attorney Craig Missakian says, “In the past, these may have been viewed as victimless crimes. But in reality, there’s significant damage.” However, if Cogill is convicted posting the band’s songs for profit, he will face up to three years in jail and a $250,000 fine. Things will get even worse if the band decide to pursue civil charges, which mean that the fine can end up to $150,000 for a song. Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, says that no date has yet been set for the trial.

August 29, 2008 04:08:31

A 27-year-old man from California has been arrested by police officers for copyright infringement over Guns N’ Roses‘ songs. The blogger, later identified as Kevin Cogill, has allegedly posted six unfinished songs from the band’s long-awaited album “Chinese Democracy“, which has been in the works for more than a decade.

A few hours after the uploading, he removed the songs when the Los Angeles-based rock band’s lawyers complained. However, he has never publicly disclosed the source of his scoop. The next day, an RIAA investigator wrote to FBI, stating that Kevin has been questioned and confessed that he has leaked the songs. “Cogill provided a typed, signed confession which stated that he had posted the unreleased Guns N’ Roses songs to the internet on his web site,” the agent wrote.

Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Chinese Democracy’ to Become Wal-Mart or Best Buy Exclusive?

August 16, 2008 02:08:46

After fourteen years of start, work, delay, speculation and rumor, rock band Gun N’ Roses have reportedly succeeded to bring their upcoming sixth studio album “Chinese Democracy” to the next level. According to several reports, their forthcoming effort is set to be launched anytime soon this year. Either Front Line management or Interscope have reportedly approached Wal-Mart and Best Buy executives. Recent news says that the agreement has been settled with one of the big-box retailers and shortly, “Chinese Democracy” will be out as an exclusive at one of the merchant chains.

Commenting on the issue, some say that it may be true as Gun N’ Roses are now managed by Irving Azoff from Front Line, a management team who have earned a reputation for striking exclusive album deals with retails chains. Early this year, Irving has just released Eagles‘ reunion set “Long Road Out of Eden” through Wal-Mart.

Although there haven’t been any statements from the band, their label Universal Music or MTV, a source told the website that the deal is still in process. Moreover, according to the source the official announcement about the agreement could be revealed today (July 14) by MTV.

Guns N’ Roses Send FBI to Investigate Songs Leak

June 25, 2008 02:06:43

Guns N’ Roses are serious with their legal threat against the website that leaked 9 of their songs from the band’s long awaited LP “Chinese Democracy” and proving it the band have even asked the help from the higher rank of the U.S. authorities. The band reportedly have called in the assistant of FBI to investigate the website, Antiquiet.com, that was leaking their songs.

According to the latest reports, the website owner Kevin Skwerl was being visited by two FBI agents on June 23, at lunch hour and on June 24, at 7:00 A.M. The agents were asking Kevin where he got the GNR’s tracks from and asked him to hand over the original files of the songs. Unfortunately, he could only give them the copies since he has erased the original ones.

Matt Sorum Hinted GNR’s Reunion Plan and Velvet Revolver’s New Singer

June 24, 2008 01:06:40

Another big news comes for Guns N’ Roses fans as latest reports stated that the band’s original members could reunited once again. The news was said by Velvet Revolver and ex-GNR’s drummer Matt Sorum at a recent interview with MusicRadar.com

Speaking to the website reporter Joe Bosso, about the reunion plan, Matt convincingly said, “I’m sure it’ll happen eventually”. He then also added that the original GNR members could have already started the meetings for the reunion saying, “They could be having meetings about it right now. They could be in a bomb shelter, with Axl Rose, (vocals) and Slash (guitar) and Duff McKagan, (bass). And Izzy Stradlin, (guitar)! Maybe Steven Adler (original GUNS N’ ROSES drummer) – I don’t know. I’d probably be the very, very, very last guy to get the call.”

Guns N’ Roses to Sue a Website Over Songs Leak

June 20, 2008 01:06:36

After having some of their tracks from the highly awaited album “Chinese Democracy” being leaked by Antiquiet.com on June 18, Guns N’ Roses are making a haste response to handle the problem. After calling the website to remove all of the leaked tracks not long after it was streamed, the band reportedly are threatening to sue the site for all the mess it has created.

Previously, Antiquiet.com has boldly revealed to public that they have acquired some “mastered and finished” tracks that will be on GNR’s long awaited LP and also posted those songs on their site. “I’d like to share with you 9 tracks from the new Guns N’ Roses album, “Chinese Democracy”. These are mastered, finished versions that you probably haven’t heard,” the website previously stated.

Guns N’ Roses in Negotiations to Drop ‘Chinese Democracy’

April 22, 2008 10:04:44

Guns N’ Roses have announced that their “Chinese Democracy” that has made history by being the most expensive recorded album, is currently “in negotiations” for a release. The album has been shelved for over a decade and lately the talks of actually putting it on the street have been making rounds with the latest challenge coming from Dr. Pepper the soda company.

In their official site, the band which is fronted by Axl Rose posted a message to their fans, confirming that negotiations are under way. They, however, do not elaborate further on what kind of deal is made for the album. The old plan was to release the album via Interscope in March 2007.

New Management ‘Honored’ to Represent Axl Rose and Co.

March 29, 2008 11:03:35

Following his split from long-time manager Merch Mercuriade in 2006, Axl Rose announced via Guns N’ Rosesofficial site that he has signed up with new managerial board that is represented by Irving Azoff and Andy Gould. Azoff and Gould have been known to have represented many renown artists.

“We are very excited and look forward to working with them and hope our relationship proves beneficial for everyone, especially the fans,” Rose said on the March 27 post. No further details have been released but the next day Azoff and Gould also released a statement in return saying “Axl Rose and Guns N’ Roses is and will always be one of the most important recording and touring artists of our time, and one of the great rock ‘n’ roll voices for his generation. We are honored that Axl has placed his trust in us.”

Axl Rose Responded to Dr. Pepper’s ‘Democracy’ Challenge

March 27, 2008 01:03:51

Maybe Dr. Pepper is the one who can convince Axl Rose to finally release the long overdue Guns N’ Roses album, “Chinese Democracy“. The drink company is offering “everyone in America” except for former members Slash and Buckethead, a free can of the soda should the album does hit the shelves within 2008. Axl has responded to this challenge.

Through a press release Jaxie Alt, director of marketing for Dr Pepper said that the company is “encouraging (ok, begging) Axl Rose to finally release his 17-year-in-the-making belabored masterpiece, Chinese Democracy, in 2008… Dr Pepper supports Axl, and fully understands that sometimes you have to make it through the jungle before you get it right.” Pepper also reasoned that they understood the meaning of striving for perfection, taking an example of their own drink which takes “a little patience” to brew the “perfect” mix.

Axl Rose to Release ‘Chinese Democracy’ for More Money?

February 08, 2008 11:02:22

Questions on whether Guns N’ Roses‘ “Chinese Democracy” will ever see the light may have gone quite stale but a recent reports indicated that the album will definitely be out should a term is fulfilled. The supposed sixth studio album from the rock band is finished but Axl Rose wants more money for its release.

Rose, notorious for perfection and irrational behavior, allegedly is negotiating with Geffen to get more money before the album is put on the streets, The Pulse of Radio reported. The frontman reported is holding the completed masters and will only hand it if the deal is reached.

Guns N’ Roses to Go Independent for ‘Chinese Democracy’?

January 25, 2008 04:01:55

Guns N’ Roses‘ ‘Chinese Democracy‘ was doubted to even see the light but when Axl Rose‘s personal manager Beta Lebeis confirmed that “everybody knows” that the album is completed, words quickly spread on the questions “when” and “how”. The latest rumor suggested that Rose opts to go independent.

Rose allegedly is inspired by Radiohead‘s unconventional way of releasing their latest album, ‘In Rainbows‘. When the Thom Yorke-fronted band ended the contract with EMI, the album was released digitally based on pay-whatever-amount-you-want. Apparently the idea also struck Rose’s head, reportedly because their contract with Universal had also wound down.

Guns N’ Roses Handed Over ‘Chinese Democracy’ to Be Released

January 21, 2008 03:01:35

Rumors on the release of the much-delayed ‘Chinese Democracy‘ have been running up and down for sometime and the Guns N’ Roses album that has cost massively in its production, reportedly is completed to be released soon.

The hint of the release came from Eddie Trunk of Q104.3 who wrote on his blog that he heard the latest update of the album. Trunk wrote: “I hear the new G&R CD is actually done, but the delay in release is not the bands issues but the label.”

Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Chinese Democracy’ Released in February?

October 03, 2007 03:10:36

Guns N’ Roses‘ long-awaited album ‘Chinese Democracy‘ will be released on February 12, 2008 according to Amazon.co.uk. Pre-order is even already available. It could be a hoax or pure coincidental, but the release date in U.K. is supposed to be on Monday, not Tuesday as scheduled.

The band’s frontman Axl Rose was photographed on the studio with Skid Row‘s Sebastian Bach late September, working on Bach’s solo album. During an interview Bach said that ‘Chinese Democracy’ “rocks” and he got to sing in one of the songs called ‘Sorry’.

Adler Still Hopeful for Full Guns N’ Roses Reunion

August 01, 2007 03:08:02

Steve Adler made it true when he said he will be reuniting with his Guns N’ Roses bandmates for a one-off gig. Apt to its plan, the July 28 night at Hollywood’s Key Club turned spectacular after guitarist Izzy Stradlin and bassist Duff McKagan joined Adler on stage.

Although the gig was under Adler’s side band ‘Adler’s Appetite’, it became semi-reunion for Guns N’ Roses when Slash appeared for the jam session. Unfortunately, the four ex-bandmates minus vocalist Axl Rose didn’t take the stage long enough for a full show because something “reportedly came up” and Slash had to leave.

Original Guns N’ Roses Reuniting in L.A. Gig

July 25, 2007 12:07:27

Original members of Guns N’ Roses are reportedly planning a huge reunion gig but ironically the only surviving member of the band, Axl Rose won’t be there to add the excitement. Drummer Steven Adler announced that he will gather bassist Duff McKagan and guitarists Slash and Izzy Stradlin for a one-off performance.

Adler said, “I’ll be down there with my band and Slash, Izzy [Stradlin], and Duff [McKagan] will be there too. It’s gonna be great.” Then he added the unlikeliness of Axl joining them, but confirming that a full reunion may happen in near future. “Axl and I spoke to each other in Las Vegas recently, and I know there’s a chance. It’s just too big. Whatever the Stones make when they play, we’d triple it. It’d be ridiculous not to do it. He can’t be that goofy.”

No South African Dates for Guns N’ Roses

April 24, 2007 03:04:32

After announcing that injured bassist Tommy Stinson will be fit enough to proceed with South African gigs, Guns N’ Roses now regretfully announced that the dates will be cancelled. Stinson is still in his recovery process and cannot cover the April 27 and May 1 nights.

Stated in a read statement is: “Stinson recently sprained his left wrist in a fall and the injury has not yet healed. As a result, Guns N Roses will not make their two scheduled performances at My Coke Fest in South Africa at the end of the month.”

Guns N’ Roses Resumes South African & Australian Dates

April 23, 2007 09:04:00

Guns N’ Roses who recently announced the postponement of Japanese dates in Chinese Democracy World Tour 2007 has further claimed that they will keep the dates starting from April 27 onwards. With this statement, they confirm that My Coke Fest in Johannesburg and May 1 show in Cape Town will resume as scheduled.

Paul Dainty as the promoter even elaborates that the reports on Australian leg that starts June 10 in Perth being cancelled is wrong. “I spoke with them last night and they did not tell me that,” Dainty said in a statement. “The South Africa dates are next week. The Australian dates are still months away.”

Slash Hinting Guns N’ Roses’ Reunion

April 17, 2007 11:04:43

With reunions of band running up and down this year, Guns N’ Roses intends to snatch its former members back from Velvet Revolver and Stone Temple Pilots. Slash, one of the 1980s members revealed that reunion is a possible matter.

Sick of playing Guns N’ Roses’ songs while he was in Velvet Revolver, Slash would like to eliminate them from his band’s song list. He had also announced the removal of songs by Stone Temple Pilots. The only chance remaining for Slash to play Guns N’ Roses’ hits is by reuniting with his ex band mates.

Axl Rose Let Loose “Chinese Democracy”

December 16, 2006 11:12:42

Would like to set the record straight on the many issues surrounding his band, Guns N’ Roses, lead singer Axl Rose released an open letter Friday Dec 15th on the band’s official Web site, detailing on split with management, the canceling of several shows and a release date for the long awaited “Chinese Democracy” album.

In the online posting, the rocker reveals there had been a series of “obstacles” delaying the LP, but seems certain that it will now finally emerge with “Chinese Democracy” is slated for a March 6, 2007 release date.

Axl Rose Axes Eagles of Death Metal from Tour

November 29, 2006 04:11:38

An American garage rock band, Eagles of Death Metal doesn’t fit best with the hugely popular Guns N’ Roses, especially its frontman Axl Rose. It is sad to say that the hard rock singer has axed the music act as the opener for Guns’ “Gunners’ Chinese Democracy” tour.

EODM was originally slated to perform on stage for Guns N’ Roses for three weeks. Unfortunately, the rock group received “not deafening boos, but lots of grumbling and grousing and indifference.” That becomes one strong reason for Rose to exclude them from the list.

Guns N’ Roses Called Off Scheduled Concert After Alcohol Ban

November 11, 2006 10:11:58

Sorry fans, there won’t be Guns N’ Roses this week. The rock group has decided to call off a scheduled concert at the Cumberland County Civil Center in Portland, Maine after being told they could not drink on stage.

Inspectors from the state fire marshal’s office reportedly gave the band the no-drinking order when they came to inspect the pyrotechnics planned for the Monday’s concert Nov 13th in Portland. Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Public Safety Department said the band wanted to drink beer, wine and Jagermeister while performing.

Axl Rose Tells All, Why He Quits the Stage

August 02, 2006 12:08:00

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose tells all why he quits the stage before the end of the band show at Wembley Arena on Sunday evening July 30th. The man released a statement, explaining that he was diagnosed with “low blood pressure” and “low blood sugar” on the morning before the show. Doctors had reportedly advised the singer not to take to the stage for the related show.

However, Rose ignored it and decided to perform on stage instead. As a result, he was then forced to bow out of the gig towards the end of the set because he was feeling unwell. Former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach, who had joined Guns N’ Roses for the show, took over lead vocals on the last songs of the night, “Night Train” and “Paradise City.”

June 10, 2006 11:06:24

After undergoing such a hectic schedules, “American Idol” Carrie Underwood finally returned to her home state Thursday June 8th, 2006 for a live performance.

Guns N’ Roses Ready to Spread Some “Democracy”

May 10, 2006 09:05:57

They’re Back, Guns N’ Roses & The Rolling Stones

May 05, 2006 11:05:38

It’s been 17 years that Guns N’ Roses and The Rolling Stones shared the bill at the Los Angeles Coliseum. And now it’s time for Guns N’ Roses to open two German dates on the Rolling Stones’ upcoming tour of Europe.

As that mentioned on the Stones’ Web site, Guns N’ Roses will join the Stones in Nuremberg on July 10 and Leipzig on July 12. And despite guitarist Keith Richards’ health condition, the European leg of the Stones’ “A Bigger Bang” tour will still be kicked off on May 27 in Barcelona, Spain.

Guns N’ Roses Will Play A Couple of New York Dates

April 15, 2006 11:04:16

After years working on “Chinese Democrary” that obviously keeps them busy, music act Guns N’ Roses will play a couple of New York dates before heading to Europe. They reportedly will perform in US next month with tickets to the May 15 and May 17 shows at the Big Apple’s Hammerstein Ballroom go on sale April 21 for $63.

“I’m trying to do something different. Some people are going to say, ‘It doesn’t sound like Axl Rose, it doesn’t sound like Guns N’ Roses.'” The band’s frontman Axl Rose said in a statement. And following the two US dates, Guns N’ Roses are scheduled to play 17 European festivals starting May 17 at Rock in Rio in Lisbon, Portugal.

GN’R’s Rose Seeks Ownership of all Band’s Works

March 08, 2006 02:03:45

Former lead singer of Guns N’ Roses, Axl Rose, has on Friday March 3rd, 2006 filed court papers asking a federal judge to affirm that he has “ownership of all creative works” starting from the day he fronted the legendary rock band.

The legal action taken by Rose presumably is part of his long-running dispute with former guitarist Slash and bassist Michael McKagan. “Axl regrets having to spend time and energy on these distractions,” Rose’s attorney Howard Weitzman said in a statement, “but he has a responsibility to protect the Guns N’ Roses legacy and expose the truth.”

Rockers Guns N’ Roses to Play Europe

February 23, 2006 03:02:13

Set to play Europe in June later this year, Guns N’ Roses will first of all perform at Donington Park on June 11th. Also set to headline the event is Metallica on June 10, Prodigy, and Korn.

Guns N’ Roses’ “Chinese Democracy” Songs Leaked

February 22, 2006 11:02:44

Three songs, all of which supposed to be featured on the highly anticipated new Guns N’ Roses album “Chinese Democracy,” have been leaked online. Fans of the music group came to a new hope for the band’s come back to music scene as “Better”, “There Was A Time”, and “IRS” leaked online Wednesday.

“Chinese Democracy,” actually is the result of band frontman Axl Rose‘s a decade hardwork, which fans have been waiting so long for a release. While Rose’s manager, Merck Mercuriadis, ordered the Internet sites to remove the links, fans on the other hand sent one of the leaked tracks to radio stations.
